DJ Revolution Announce New Act Malcolm & Martin And Upcoming Album

via the press release

As an internationally respected DJ and producer, Revolution’s skills have privileged the tracks of many Hip-Hop luminaries. Those skills were optimally displayed on his three critically-acclaimed solo and collaborative albums including R2K, King Of The Decks, and In 12s We Trust. DJ Revolution has also gained the esteem of fans from around the globe, as a renowned DJ, Producer and Editor of the highly-influential “The Wake Up Show” with Tech & Sway (MTV). Through more than two decades of success as a DJ, Producer, and TV and film scorer DJ Revolution never forgot those early years and the promise of Hip-Hop.

Together, DJ Revolution, Styliztik Jones (hailing from LA, CA), and KB Imean (hailing from Queens, NY) represent one of the first genuine new rap groups to emerge in a generation. Not just another disparate crew, but a true collective of teachers and learners working to lead a people, a movement. Encouraged by the iconic men who fought for the every-man during a different time using different tools, the trio reverentially took on the moniker Malcolm & Martin as a siren call announcing new leaders armed with new tools to fight for modern-day liberation.

Fresh off the release of their latest, already heralded mixtape ("Malcolm and Martin were...Criminal Minded", a 2010 re-working of the seminal album released by BDP in 1987) which was released in November, the trio returns to wake-up sleeping Hip-Hop fans with their debut LP, DJ Revolution Presents Malcolm and Martin "Life Doesn't Frighten Me", which will be released on 2-1-2011 on SoulSpazm Records.

“It’s a progressive throwback. Its Hip-Hop music for the intelligent listener. Something you’ve never heard before, that feels like something you have loved your whole life” laments DJ Revolution on the group’s debut LP. Further validating Revolution’s claims, a who’s who of Hip-Hop luminaries have already voiced their overwhelming support for Malcolm & Martin; including DJ Premier, MTV’s Sway, Evidence, Statik Selektah, Masta Ace, Grammy-award winning Producer Dawuan Parker and Marco Polo who also produced the duo’s lead-single “Movement Music.”

No gimmicks included, Malcolm & Martin’s debut effort is a classic throwback that tackles real topics that are frequently glossed over in today’s urban music climate. Yet, perhaps, KB Imean sums up the group’s direction more eloquently, as he states “Life Doesn't Frighten Me is our journey through real topics that are seldom talked about and or discussed in this day and age of Hip-Hop. We provide vivid commentary over gritty production; which is certain to provoke thoughts and opinions."

Talib Kweli 'Gutter Rainbows' Track List And Press Release With Features & Production Credits

Gutter Rainbows Album Out January 25th, 2011 on Javotti Media/3D

Digital-Only in North America / All Formats in the rest of the world.

On Reflection Eternal’s 2000 album “Train of Thought,” Talib Kweli challenged fans, and himself, to “do what comes naturally.” After years of recording on mainstream labels, he now has the chance to produce exactly what he wants—and feels he needs—to produce: an album straight from his mouth to the ears of his fans. Invoking the true meaning of MC, Master of Ceremonies, Kweli brings incredible power to his live shows and feeds off the spontaneous energy of his audiences. Being able to interact directly with his audience and the musicians he most respects, he has created an album and a sound that best reproduces that ceremony for his fans. Finally, after serious urgency in the studio, Kweli presents ‘Gutter Rainbows,’ an album that takes a trip back to childhood while marking the newest stage in his long and dynamic career. This newest release, recorded on his time and with his talent as the driving force, proves Kweli is a complete and formidable musician—it presents the depth and breadth of his experience and ability, and sets a new bar for the cutting edge of hip-hop music.

Through Kweli’s various collaborations, he has been able to grow as an artist and expand his fan base. For over 15 years, Kweli has been a king of New York hip-hop who has an expansive international audience. Kweli’s work with Mos Def on “Black Star” (1998) still stands as one of hip-hop’s premiere expressions of truth. On “Train of Thought,” Kweli teamed up with Hi Tek to form Reflection Eternal, a virtuoso hip-hop duo that continues to wow audiences and critics alike. In 2007, Kweli and DJ/Producer/MC Madlib gave their fans “Liberation”—originally released free on the internet—an album that was filled with their joint love of the music they make and the respect their fans give them. Performing all over the world with unique style and an unequaled dedication to his music, Kweli has worked with artists as diverse as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, MF Doom, Mary J. Blige, Fabolous, Common, Nelly, The Roots, Quincy Jones, Gucci Mane, Norah Jones, KRS-One and many more. With a career filled with success and innovation, it comes as no surprise that both Jay-Z and 50 Cent, at the height of their stardom, both counted Kweli among their favorite rappers. On his “solo” albums, there is no question that his lyrical talent and unique musical drive rank up there with the best in the business. Recording with other world famous musicians or alone on the mic, Kweli gives both the long-time fan and the uninitiated an unforgettable experience.

“Gutter Rainbows” was recorded with the help of incredibly talented musicians from across the country. Eric Krasno, Jean Grae, Strong Arm Steady, Iron Solomon, Outasight, Kendra Ross, Sean Price, 88-Keys, Marco Polo, Ski Beatz, M-Phazes, S-1, E. Jones, Oh No and others make appearances. With this record, Kweli is able to make the music he knows and loves, play with the best musicians around, and bring it straight to his fans.

As a boy growing up in Brooklyn, Kweli saw gutters that ran with dirt, oil and water, revealing a shimmering rainbow to his child’s eyes. Drawing its title from this memory, this album puts at the raw center what his music has been doing for years: finding and preserving the beautiful in the hideous; the rainbows in the gutter. Weaving the lyrical and the gritty, the autobiographical with an honest, no-holds- barred hip-hop spirit; Kweli sticks fiercely to what feels true to him in creating the sound of this album. Without being tied to any particular label’s conception of what his sound should be or when his work should hit his fans, Kweli is free to build his most personal album yet in both content and motivation. Kweli’s true solo career has only just begun, and although the future holds more collaboration, “Gutter Rainbows” marks a new stage in the long and ever-evolving career of Talib Kweli.

¡MAYDAY! 'Stuck On An Island' Release Set For Release October 12th

via the press release

October 12 marks the latest release from Miami-based hip-hop collective ¡MAYDAY! entitled Stuck on an Island (¡MAYDAY! Music). Stuck on an Island is the follow-up to 2009’s teaser EP Technology, both of which blaze with an upbeat, tightly wound energy that keeps the listener grooving with its slick production and singing along with its ultra-catchy hooks. The album’s title pays homage to the trials and tribulations the band has faced trying to "escape" Miami. Producer/guitarist Plex Luthor explains: “Miami is paradise, but at the same time the geography has always made us feel like outsiders in the larger pond. We want to get our music to the masses, but sometimes the walls around the port of Miami make it difficult to break out. We want to make sure the world knows musicians from this city can compete culturally with the best of them.”

While Stuck on an Island is only ¡MAYDAY!’s second full-length album, the band has consistently turned out addictive urban alternative tracks that have permeated the local Miami music scene and beyond, grabbing the ear of hip-hip impresario Lil’ Wayne who used the group as his personal band in the videos “Get a Life,” “Da Da Da” and “On Fire.” ¡MAYDAY! also collaborated with Cee-Lo on the hit song "Groundhog Day" from their self-titled debut of which mtvU said, “Like Gorillaz covering Gnarls Barkley, the gospel funk-hop assault of the ¡MAYDAY! single “Groundhog Day” would be enough for most to base a career on.” The music video logged over 2 million hits on YouTube in its first two days and made the band a breakout success story, garnering attention from the New York Times, MTV and URB Magazine. They went on to share stages with Daft Punk, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Method Man, winning over audiences around the country with their high-octane live show.

The dynamic songs Stuck on an Island call to mind a who’s who of alt-hip-hop’s most cutting edge and creative stars like Gnarls Barkley, N*E*R*D or Lupe Fiasco. Tracks like “I’ll Be Gone,” “Picture Perfect,” “No 1’s Looking,” “Worse Case Scenario,” and “Make a Living” form the backbone of an album of diverse styles that always manages to surprise and never ceases to get your head bobbing and your body moving.

The stunning cover art for Stuck on an Island was rendered by Jeff Dekal with creative input from all the members of the band. Using several types of media to give the image a lifelike quality, the scene is meant to depict the band’s feeling of isolation, and the small details - the guitar inputs plugged into Plex Luthor’s arm, and the futuristic shades they all wear - highlight that the band’s distinctive style.

¡MAYDAY! is: guitarist/producer Plex Luthor, MCs Wrekonize (you might remember him from MTV Battles) and BernBiz, bassist/keyboardist Gianni Ca$h, drummer L.T. Hopkins and percussionist Nonymous

Track listing for Stuck on an Island:

01. I’ll Be Gone
02. Stuck on an Island ft. 7King
03. No 1’s Lookin
04. Lost Highway
05. Broads & Freqs
06. Transparent ft. Snave Nair
07. Freak Show
08. Smoke & Mirrors
09. On 2 Somethn ft. Jovi Rockwell
10. Worst Case Scenario ft. The Money Making Jam Boys

Trek Life Announces 'Everything Changed Nothing' New Album Out July 27

via the press release

(July 13, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY) California bred emcee Trek Life is excited to announce the release of his latest album, Everything Changed Nothing. Produced entirely by Oddisee, the album will be released July 27th via Mello Music Group.

The album is the culmination of years of collaboration between Trek and producer Oddisee that began with the remixes of Price I've Paid, Trek's debut LP. Undaunted by the thousands of miles separating them, the pair have crafted yet another example of how a producer and an artist with the right chemistry can maintain a winning streak. "We both knew exactly what we were trying to do from the beginning," explains Trek. "Oddisee is a producer in every sense of the world. He had a direction and it was my job to manifest it lyrically." Oddisee's sonic backdrop invoked a verbal assault from Trek that remains raw, and unapologetic throughout the album as Trek sheds light on the "ugly nature of the world" with his gritty but poignant lyricism.

"So Supreme", the album's lead single has generated a powerful buzz. The track was featured on ESPN recently for the network's coverage of the Stanley Cup and NBA Playoffs. The track was a perfect fit for video clips that thrive on ideas of competition and perseverance; with a hard-hitting beat and aggressive rhymes complimenting the action on screen. In regards to Trek's original intent of the track, he says, "This song is really just re-establishing my footing as an emcee. Strictly raw rhymes." Certainly having the lead single of your new album catch the attention of the world's premier sports broadcasting network is a good early indication of the album's merit.

The album's title stems from the emcee's role as a father. Speaking affectionately of his daughter, Trek says, "I was thinking how much she means to me and how she's literally everything I ever wanted, but the reality is life, in general, goes on." The album speaks to the real life of nearly everyone. The personal struggles, trials and tribulations quite simply don't act as roadblocks to the freight train that is life. It’s a sobering fact that Trek seems to have a good handle on. On tracks like "So LA" and the soul-scorching "Jump Out There" Trek makes clear his reality-to-fantasy ratio is stacked well in favor of the former. Gritty tracks of urban reality cross-pollinate with songs that deal with romantic desire such as the Bootsy Collins inspired "I'd Rather Be".

Much as rock groups had classic line-ups lending to their defining sound, many of hip-hop's classic recordings were a result of the pairing of producers and emcees that simply shared an undeniable chemistry. From the legendary DJ Premier and GURU of Gangstarr to Pete Rock and CL Smooth, duos with a history of building towards developing a distinct sound have often won out in the long run. Oddisee and Trek Life carry on the tradition of keeping a close-knit group dynamic together resulting in the production of a coherent and consistent effort.

Trek Life Everything Changed Nothing, produced entirely by Oddisee, drops July 27th via Mello Music Group.

David Banner & 9th Wonder Team Up For 'Death Of A Pop Star'

via the press release

(May 6, 2010 - Los Angeles, CA) Grammy Award winners David Banner and 9th Wonder, two of hip-hop's heavyweights, are teaming up for the collaborative album Death of a Pop Star slated to be released this summer on Big Face Entertainment. Serving as the artists' first collaborative work together, Death Of A Pop Star offers fans of both David Banner and 9th Wonder a fresh and unique perspective on the music industry.

9th Wonder has a history of teaming with legendary emcees and crafting dream projects that have resulted in both critical and commercial success. With top-selling hit maker David Banner at his side, it's obvious that the respected producer's winning streak isn't slowing down. David Banner's most recent successes include writing, producing, and arranging (with guidance from Jimmy Smith and The G Team at Chalt Day) the new non-hip hop Gatorade theme song "Evolve," performed by Kermit Quinn. To some, pairing with Banner, who is also a celebrated producer in his own right, having produced smash hits like T.I.'s "Rubberband Man," might seem like an odd thing for 9th Wonder to do but this project was a wholly mutual vision between both artists.

The duo's driving creative force for the album stems from shared feelings about the state of the music industry and the de-valuing of music. Concerned that listener's today exist in a world where style wins over substance to the detriment of both the music industry, and the arts, the pair decided to take action. "We first were going to make it a free mixtape release, but then we realized it was bigger than that," explains Banner on their intentions. The duo set out to create a set that would help bring the focus back to music; not image.

While their project began in earnest with their eye on the state of hip-hop, a mutual respect for each other's artistry helped drive the partnership. "9th Wonder is probably one of the most soulful cats in our generation," says Banner, praising the North Carolina producer know for his work with Little Brother, Jay-Z, Beyonce, and more. "Death Of A Pop Star is needed for a balance in the music landscape right now, just like 2 Live Crew and A Tribe Called Quest were once needed at the same time."

9th Wonder adds, "David Banner and I both share the same views on topics such as manhood, being black in America in present day, and the state of black music in general. David and I hash out a lot of options before we actually do a song. Once we get past all the options, the end result is always clear." For fans looking toward the summer release, this David Banner and 9th Wonder collaboration may serve as only a beginning, rather than the pinnacle, for the Death Of A Pop Star concept. Visualized as an ongoing concept, the duo is keeping their options open. Satiating fans, Banner says, "Who knows what concept Death Of A Pop Star may be in the future, next year it might be Lil Wayne and Pete Rock. 9th Wonder and I would still oversee it, but we don't know what it's gonna be." He continues, "This concept is bigger than hip-hop music. It shows us that young people do have soul."

Eminem Settles On The 'Recovery' As His Next Album Release

via the press release

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 14 -- The much-anticipated new album from Eminem, Recovery (Aftermath/Interscope), will be released June 22, 2010, it was announced today by Interscope Records. On Recovery, his seventh major label studio album, Eminem has reached out to an exciting list of first-time collaborators, including DJ Khalil, Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin and Boi-1da, among others.

Eminem releases Recovery just over a year after his last album, 2009's Relapse. Relapse put the cap on an impressive ten years of recorded output, and contributed to Eminem being the biggest selling artist of 2000-2009. In recognition of this, Neilsen SoundScan named him their Artist of the Decade. Relapse entered the charts at #1 and, at nearly double platinum, was the best selling rap album of last year. It also earned Eminem his 11th Grammy award, winning in the Best Rap Album category. Relapse's first single, "Crack A Bottle" from Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Eminem's second #1 after 2002's "Lose Yourself") and set a SoundScan record at the time of its release for opening week download sales (418,000). The album also spun off two other hits; the Top 10 "We Made You" and Top 20 "Beautiful."

"I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year," remarked Eminem. "But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title."

Georgia Anne Muldrow And Declaime AKA Dudley Perkins Announce SomeOthaShip Connect Music Label & Artist Roster

via the press release

(March 31, 2010 - Brooklyn, NY) Only a month after the release of their album, SomeOthaShip, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime AKA Dudley Perkins are proud to announce the founding of their own label, SomeOthaShip Connect. With distribution deals in place with E1 Music (physical and digital) and Fat Beats Records (vinyl) and a number of releases lined up already for 2010, including spring releases from Darryl Moore and Declaime, the label promises a bright future and fresh start for the duo.

Uniting as the eccentric pair known as G&D (Georgia & Declaime) in 2007, the California-based duo has come a long way since releasing their debut album, The Message Uni Versa. Both Georgia and Dudley have separately released solo albums while also collaborating with artists like Big Pooh of Little Brother, Prince Po, Erykah Badu, Madlib, Mos Def, Black Milk, Kool G Rap, Flying Lotus, The Alkaholiks and more. Though having the opportunity to work with countless prolific talents, being unable to control their own business destiny began to hang heavy. "Why let someone eat off your creativity like that? If god's blessing you, let him bless you whole-heartedly," says Declaime. "All our artists are for the same cause." Fueling ingenuity and emboldening originality, the outcome is the creation of the new label, SomeOthaShip Connect.

Ready to set sail, SomeOthaShip Connect is delivering two albums on May 4th, Declaime's FONK and Darryl Moore's Where I'm At (both artist tracklistings below). A veteran of hip-hop, Declaime delivers on FONK, combining his own emcee forte with beats from luminary producer Quazedelic (Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, Angie Stone) to generate a sound brimming with rhymes and vivid hooks. The album's initial single "Fame" will be available through iTunes beginning April 6th. New enterprising poet/singer, Darryl Moore is also not to be overlooked with his debut release, Where I'm At. The artist feeds Soul-hungry music lovers with eloquent lyrics and soulful melodies. "He's an amazing poet, just as amazing as his singing," praises Georgia. Previously, Darryl Moore has worked with the likes Bobby Brown, Gorilla Zoe & (Dr.) Cornel West.

Following these early May releases is a bevy of releases to follow. Georgia is releasing her own experimental jazz album, Ocotea, June 15th, while preparing for a new G&D album to be released later in the year. Her single "I Had A Revelation," recorded at the legendary Agape Church in LA is also out on iTunes April 6th. In addition to forthcoming releases from newly signed artists Kadence, Stacy Epps, Rickie BB, Oji, Quazedelic AKA Stan Sly, and Reverend Michael Beckwith, SomeOthaShip Connect is also planning the release of books and comics as well, embarking on ventures big and small with their mission statement: "We are sailing, with intention, upon the shores of this reality, with a message of FONK and light for the whole planet."

Alan Grunblatt, President of E1 Music, adds, "I originally signed Fat Joe to his first record deal and was blown away by the new material Joe played me. Fate has brought us back together; trust me when I tell you he's got bangers for days!"

Joseph "Fat Joe" Cartagena has sold over 2.5 millions album as a solo artist and has taken the hip hop world by storm since his 1993 debut album "Represent." He followed this impressive debut with success after success. His album Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.) was a critically-acclaimed, platinum selling album that spawned the hits "What's Luve" and "We Thuggin."

In addition to being a highly successful solo artist, he is also the founder and current C.E.O. of the collective Terror Squad. Joe also had a monster hit with Terror Squad, "Lean Back," which became a summertime anthem when it was released.

yU: Diamond District Alumni Announces 'Before Taxes' New Release Coming April 13

via the press release

(March 24, 2010 - Brooklyn, NY) yU, a member of the celebrated hip-hop group Diamond District, is proud to announce the release of his solo album Before Taxes. The album showcases the incomparable skill and talent displayed on his group effort, while pushing this dynamic artist into new territory. Before Taxes will be released April 13th, 2010 via Mello Music Group.

Before Taxes is yU's answer to hip-hop fans' cry for a return to real hip-hop. The artist describes hip-hop's golden era of boom-bap greatness as being akin to one's personal finances... before taxes, that is. With watered-down commercial rap eating away at the cultural wallets of hip-hop fans worldwide, with his new album the DMV MC looks to take great strides at filling his listeners' pockets with a rich cultural currency.

The album is an exciting step forward for yU. After helping put the Washington DC/Maryland hip-hop scene back on the map with the seminal Diamond District album In The Ruff, the celebrated emcee has a lot to live up to. "Before Taxes is different than In The Ruff in a lot of ways," says yU. "I've been told that the sound is more mellow or experimental at times. There's different subject matter and approach to the rhymes." While perfectly capable of flooring listeners without his Diamond District crew, yU brings a few other friends along to help turn up the heat. Underground hero Grap Luva appears on "Brainwash," a cautionary tale of the ills that befall urban life, while appearances by Bilal Salaam, EyeQ, ERK, Omun, Op Swamp 81, Finale and yU's partner in rhyme from The 1978ers, SlimKat round out the remainder of the album.

In the spirit of evolving as a multi-faceted talent, yU took on the lion's share of the work behind the boards for Before Taxes, including producing the only completely instrumental track on the album. "I produced half of [the album], recorded and mixed all but one, and, along with Slimkat, was in total control of the direction of the project," explains yU. Bilal Salaam, Isabella Banneker and Kev Brown were also on hand to provide beats for Before Taxes, while Diamond District member Oddisee's lush production provided the soundscape for "Native," a track that seamlessly fuses heartfelt classic soul with yU's thoughtful delivery and Native American-influenced rhymes. Before Taxes will serve as one of two releases for yU in 2010, with a follow up solo full-length, TheEARN, scheduled for a fall release.

Bishop Lamont Recording With John Mayer, Work On Angola 3 Documentary With Samuel L. Jackson & Doing Films

via Dub CNN

Since his departure from Aftermath in early January, it has been quiet around Bishop Lamont. That's because he's been working! Check out the new press release below about his latest projects with John Mayer and Samuel L. Jackson.

Bishop Lamont knows Drama. But that’s a good thing when it’s Drama from Rob Dyrdek’s hit MTV show “Fantasy Factory.”

“Drama did it — he’s a mega-producer who doesn’t get enough credit for his talent,” Bishop says as he listens to “Gone,” a new song featuring John Mayer that he cut on a recent stop by the Fantasy Factory. “E. Sanchez hooked it up and I just ran with it. I did it for the music, I just felt it, related to it and identified with what John was singing about. And, straight-up, John may have got controversial in a magazine interview but the dude’s no racist ... he was just bein’ crazy, damn, take a joke.”

Lamont stars in, and is a producer of, the upcoming feature “Fahrenheit 513” with Damion Whitaker, Bokeem Woodbine, Christian Audigier and Tom Sizemore, and he also did a track for a documentary on the Angola 3 that Samuel L. Jackson recently narrated, entitled “Land of the Free.”

“It’s a travesty that is a very, very deep cause for me,” Lamont says about the case of three innocent men, Herman Wallace, Albert Woodfox and Robert King, held in solitary confinement for more than three decades for trying to speak out against inhumane treatment and racial segregation. Lamont has befriended King, who was released in 2001, while Wallace and Woodfox remain in solitary. “It pained me that all I was able to contribute personally was a song — I want to do a whole lot more than that. I recently met with (fellow activist and entertainer) Harry Belefonte and we have a lot of work to do together.”

“My business manager, Damizza, had been trying to introduce me to Dave Stewart (of Eurhythmics fame), who is composing the score for both films I’m involved with.” Bishop continued. “Dave introduced me to his artist Nadirah X. She’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met. She just blew me away; her music — her soul — pours through the speakers. I just heard her in my head on the John Mayer song. She felt it too — felt what I was saying in the song with my verses. I asked her to get on it and before we know it Dave’s stringin’ up his guitar ... it’s incredible. He played an outta-this-world solo using his diamond ring as a slide. I’d never seen, or heard, anything like it.”

“Oh, and for y’all thinkin’ I’m gonna say “Fu*k Dre” and diss him or Aftermath like every other artist that’s no longer there, you got me all wrong. Dre signed me after hearing a demo I ambushed him with at a video shoot and not only did he not blow me off, he was true to his word ... he listened to it. The next morning he was droppin’ my name on radio and became my biggest supporter. I sincerely appreciate his mentorship. He took the time and put a hell of a lot of effort into my artistry, when most people in his position don’t do that.”

“Now I’m guiding my own way and that’s what I’ve been training for all these years — and I can’t wait to start sharing my message and vision with the world.”

Donnis Signs With Atlantic Records

via the press release

Atlantic Records has announced the signing of their new artist Donnis who has released the details of his first-ever US tour. The rising rapper will be among the multi-artist hip-hop bill entitled the "Crowd Control Tour," also featuring Kidz In The Hall, 88-Keys and Izza Kizza. The 16-city trek kicked off on Sunday, February 28th at New York City's Highline Ballroom, with dates then continuing through early April (see attached itinerary below).

Donnis is quickly making a name as one of the most talented new stars on the Southern hip-hop scene. The Georgia-based MC first attracted attention last year with 10.Deep's breakout mixtape, "DIARY OF AN ATL BRAVE," and has since scored major appeal amongst listeners with his smoothed out rap anthem, "Gone" (released on revered DJ/Producer A-trak's Brooklyn based Fool's Gold Records). "Donnis is a truly original, compelling new voice on the hip-hop landscape, and we pulled out all the stops to bring him into the Atlantic family. His creativity and lyrical flow are hugely impressive, and the Diary of an ATL Brave mixtape was a captivating introduction to this major talent. Now that we've sealed the deal, we're looking forward to watching Donnis take it to the next level" proclaimed Atlantic Records Chairman and CEO Craig Kallman.

While hard at work completing his Atlantic debut album, Donnis will keep listeners entertained with his new mixtape "Fashionably Late" set to be released this month. Currently featured in the March issue of XXL's "Show and Prove", Donnis will also be included in the magazine's hugely influential "Freshmen 10" alongside West Coast rapper Nipsey Hussle and J. Cole from North Carolina. The talented rapper who has already shared stages with such luminaries as T.I., Chingy, and 112 – will also be among the new stars performing at the upcoming South By Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas.

via the press release

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 1, 2010) – With over 45 million Myspace views, 37 million plays, dominating Southern California radio stations Power 106, KIIS FM, AMP with over 3,000 spins of hit single "We Run LA", opening up for artists such as Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Sean Kingston and more serve as a brief rap-sheet for newly signed Kon-Live artist, Ya Boy. The record label is lead by internationally acclaimed artist and entrepreneur Akon. Ya Boy joins label mates Lady Gaga, T-Pain, Colby O'Donis, Kardinal Official and dynamic duo Rock City as the first artist from the west coast signed to Kon-Live. "Ya Boy is one of the hardest workers today…He's an amazing artist that never got a chance to shine. He never gave up and now he has a chance to shine not only on the West Coast but internationally," says Akon.

Catchy punch lines, versatility, eyebrow raising topics, witty wordplay combined with his no-color lines policy have helped garner Ya Boy aka YB The Rock Star widespread appeal. In 2002, he further gained notoriety from his song "100 Bars of Crack" where he rapped a 100 bars over Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang" also featured on The Black Wall Street Journal Vol. 1. In the summer of 2005 Ya Boy released his first solo mixtape, "Future of the Franchise" followed by the 2006 release of his debut album "Rookie of the Year ." The album featured collaborations with his Bay Area rap neighbors E-40, Turf Talk, Clyde Carson of The Team, San Quinn and more. The album's first single, "Step Ya Game Up", was produced by musical architect, Rick Rock. That same year, Ya Boy wrote and appeared on the Kevin Federline's rap album Playing With Fire allowing him to expand his horizon.

Seamlessly pounding the music industry's pavement YB The Rock Star secured his position on the West Coast in 2008, when he released the single "Holla at Ya Boy" produced by Cool & Dre. Successfully saturating the web with viral videos and music on hundreds if not thousands of multi-media stations across the globe.

Meanwhile, The Source Magazine featured him in the Unsigned Hype section, BET's Rap City awarded Ya Boy the mixtape of the week title, while XXL Magazine, Ozone and Hip Hop Weekly all co-signed him as the "Next To Blow." In 2009 Ya Boy released hit single "We Run LA" feat. Dr. Hollywood, the song is currently spinning on multiple radio stations throughout Los Angeles. "Ya Boy truly deserves this moment…We felt there's no one on an international level bigger than Akon. We're excited and happy to join the Kon-Live family," says Manager Mike G, Nitevision Management.

With multiple Ya Boy videos and mixtapes saturating the web, a total seven years of paying dues, Ya Boy will finally reap the benefits of his labor. Now that his path has been paved and recognized "It will impact music with a breath of fresh air," says Ya Boy.

Janelle Monae 'The ArchAndroid' Arrives May 18; First Single "Tightrope" (ft. Big Boi)

via the press release

NEW YORK, NY--(February 11, 2010) - Wondaland Arts Society/Bad Boy recording artist Janelle Monáe has announced the release of her eagerly awaited debut album. "The ArchAndroid" will arrive in stores and at all DSPs on May 18th.

The album will be heralded by the first single, "Tightrope (ft. Big Boi)." The track will premiere on Thursday, February 11th on Pitchfork.com, with a companion song from "The ArchAndroid," entitled "Cold War," debuting the following day via Monáe's official website, janellemonae.com. Both songs will be available for purchase exclusively at the site beginning February 12th, and then at all DSPs on February 23rd. In addition, a music video for "Tightrope" is currently in pre-production.

"The ArchAndroid" is an "EMOTION PICTURE" brought to you by Janelle Monáe and the Mad Minds of the Wondaland Arts Society. The star-studded featured cast includes the legendary Big Boi of OutKast, renowned poet Saul Williams, psychedelic dance-punk troupe Of Montreal, punk prophets Deep Cotton, and the Wondaland Arch Orchestra.

The album was recorded at Wondaland Studios in Atlanta, but written all over the world, including but not limited to Moscow, Prague, Istanbul, Berlin, Amsterdam, New York, and the Palace of the Dogs. "The ArchAndroid" was inspired not only by the energy of these places, but by such revolutionary musicians and artistic visionaries as Salvador Dalí, Walt Disney, OutKast, Stevie Wonder, Octavia Butler, David Bowie, Andy Warhol, and John Williams. The album was Executive Produced by Nate Wonder, Chuck Lightning, Janelle Monáe, and Sean "Diddy" Combs, with Co-Executive Production from Big Boi of OutKast.

A ground-breaking, genre-blurring singer, songwriter, producer, and performer, Monáe's inventive style melds a refined pop sensibility with an extraordinary postmodern mash-up of soul, funk, and rock 'n' roll. Like Sly Stone, Prince, and OutKast, Monáe proves that innovative music can jam, while simultaneously inventing new concepts and sounds. "The ArchAndroid" follows the Grammy Award-nominated artist's two acclaimed EPs, 2008's "METROPOLIS: THE CHASE SUITE (SPECIAL EDITION)" and "METROPOLIS: SUITE I OF IV," both of which received extensive critical praise upon their initial releases.

Monáe is slated for a variety of live dates and TV appearances surrounding the release of "The ArchAndroid." A charismatic and unique live performer who has previously toured with No Doubt, Paramore, Erykah Badu, and Raphael Saadiq, she will also be doing a series of exclusive residencies in a number of cities across North America -- full details will be announced shortly via janellemonae.com.

What's more, Monáe is set to join this summer's much anticipated 2010 Lilith Tour, joining a star-studded array of female artists including Sarah MacLachlan, Norah Jones, Mary J. Blige, Loretta Lynn, Tegan & Sara, Sara Bareilles, Colbie Caillat, and many others. Full tour details will be unveiled shortly.

Janelle Monáe is a true 21st Century musical phenomenon, earning widespread acclamation for her compelling cybersoul sound. The Atlanta-based artist -- who first garnered national attention for her collaborations with Big Boi on OutKast's "IDLEWILD" -- has been profiled in a wide range of national publications, including Vogue, GQ, SPIN, Nylon, PAPER, Essence, and the New York Times.

"A very different kind of diva," declared Vogue. "Monáe creates this futuristic world of hers by synthesizing past inspirations: the operatic pop and hornlike sharpness of Shirley Bassey, the energetic funk of James Brown, and the breezy rock and soul of OutKast," said Creative Loafing. "'It's been awhile since I felt so fully enraptured and bemused and awed as I did when she was on stage," proclaimed Paste, while Vibe noted, "Monáe's upcoming album is poised to bring an eclectic, urbane feel to today's R&B." "Janelle Monáe is honing her completely individual skills as a very exciting solo artist," said the UK's Blag, "not only in sound but very much in style."

Monáe has also drawn accolades from fellow artists across the musical spectrum. "What I love about Janelle is that she has a magical ability to bring folks together," says Big Boi, while his partner in OutKast, Andre "3000" Benjamin declares, "Ms. Monáe has one of the most enchanting voices of our generation. She's a living, singing babydoll. Darling... just darling. Ha."

Legendary artist Prince hails Janelle, saying, "She is so smart." "Janelle Monáe is one of the most important signings of my career," proclaims Sean "Diddy" Combs. "She is a true visionary, with an original sound and a mesmerizing presence. I can't wait to watch the future unfold for Janelle."
