Tanya Morgan Announce Upcoming Live Dates

via the press release

(April 26, 2010 - Brooklyn, NY) Still riding the success of their 2009 sophomore LP, Brooklynati, and now the recent release of Donwill's solo debut, Don Cusack In High Fidelity, Tanya Morgan is excited to announce upcoming Spring performance dates, including their first ever trip to Europe.

Starting their string of dates, Tanya Morgan will be performing at the First Book Charity Concert, an event they will curate alongside Move Forward Music this Friday, April 30th at Crash Mansion in New York City. The charity, First Book, provides new books at low cost or free to thousands of communities that are unable to purchase books for children in need. "The book drive was presented to us a while ago and at the time we had no idea that it would be related to such a wonderful cause," says Donwill. "I personally am very happy to be involved with an organization devoted to giving back. If my celebrity can go towards causing change and helping enrich a child's then it's all worth it." Joining Tanya Morgan, Buckshot and fellow Duck Down Records artists Skyzoo and Torae will also be performing. The show kicks off at 7:30pm and tickets for the event are $12, with all proceeds going to First Book.

Staying busy, the following day Tanya Morgan will be performing at the Bamboozle Music Festival on Saturday, May 1st at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey. Performing alongside pop superstars Paramore, Ke$ha, and Drake, Tanya Morgan is ready to bring their unique brand of hip-hop out in full force for festival goers who will be spending most of the day taking in predominately alternative rock and pop acts. Tanya Morgan's set will kick off at 1:45pm at the B-Boy Stage.

Finally, Tanya Morgan is excited to bring Brooklynati overseas for the first time. "We have toured most of the US and Canada but it's overdue time we showed the world what we can do," says Von Pea. "Our peers are always amazed we haven't been to Europe yet because they know the brand of hip-hop we make is loved abroad." With a string of shows already confirmed, including dates in Ipswich on May 13th, Penzance on May 14th, and a May 15th show in Cardiff - fans can expect a handful of forthcoming shows to be announced in the coming weeks. Von Pea says, "These dates are just the first strike. We are about to build another part of Brooklynati in Europe!"

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Plan National Headlining Tour

via the press release

BURBANK, CA--(Marketwire - March 11, 2010) - Grammy Award winning hip-hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will launch a 34-city U.S. tour this spring in support of their long-awaited reunion album titled "Uni5: The World's Enemy" set for an April 27 release on BTNH Worldwide/Asylum/Warner Bros. Records. Krayzie, Wish, Layzie and Flesh-N-Bone will kick off the tour on March 24 in Minneapolis, MN and wrap-up in Tuscon, AZ on May 3.

The album is a 15-year reunion that chronicles the unity and adversity issues that have rifled the group's successful, often turbulent career while opening up a broader discussion on how these same themes manifest themselves in society. "You go through things to make you stronger," Layzie says. "All your obstacles, all the things you go through that don't seem positive at that particular time are only to get you ready for your next phase of life."

With more than 30 million albums sold worldwide and a very active (almost cult-like) loyal fan base, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony have become one of the most popular hip-hop groups in the genre's history. The recipients of numerous awards and accolades, the Bone Thugs are also the only artists or group to collaborate with icons Eazy-E, 2Pac, Big Pun and the Notorious B.I.G. while they were still alive. These Midwest franchise players, most revered for popularizing staccato rhymes with melodic vocals, have influenced the cadence and delivery of many of today's MCs.

"With the contributions we have made through songs, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will live forever in music. We've made our mark in history," says Krayzie. "To me, that is the most valuable thing."

Alicia Keys Is Evermore Elegant & Mature In Toronto On 'Freedom' Tour Concert Recap

As reported by Jane Stevenson at Canoe / QMI Agency

TORONTO - I know why the Caged Bird sings.

Or in the case of neo-soul star Alicia Keys, who initially appeared inside a silver cage at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night (March 10), singing Caged Bird, why she sings: Because she sounds so good.

Keys brought her biggest production to date for the occasion: a dazzling gigantic video screen that broke into many smaller screens, a large gleaming silver staircase, a nine-piece band, and three dancers.

Touring in support of her fourth album, The Element Of Freedom, the 29-year-old New York singer-songwriter-pianist also made a good glamazon, appearing in silver sequined pants, a black shirt, a blood red blazer, and high heels, with her hair in soft curls.

Her first hit, Fallin', prompted major applause, as she stood at the front of stage playing a tiny white piano - and the song ended with the words, "Rise Up" on the enormous video screen above her.

But she delivered a more dramatic performance with her Bond theme (a collaboration with Jack White), Another Way To Die, losing the blazer and seductively prowling the staircase and her large stage with her dancers.

For her next song, Karma, Keys added some of the lyrics of Talking Heads' Once In A Lifetime, but it was her own, I Need You, that proved to be a stronger follow-up tune.

And when she sat down to play Prayer For Forgiveness, her piano flashed the words: "Play Me," and then, "Thank You," before it began rotating during, Diary, which prompted a crowd singalong and some mighty high notes from her male back up singer.

"We're excited to be here in Toronto," said Keys, who hit a few big notes of her own during Like You'll Never See Me Again. "God bless you."

After a brief band interlude, Keys re-appeared lying on top of the piano, now moving from the back of the stage to the front, for another uplifting number, Wait Til You See My Smile.

But the mid-show highlight proved to be the uber-soulful and funky Go Ahead featuring Keys playing a portable keyboard strapped around her neck, while her guitar player traded licks alongside her.

Finally elegant in a floor length white gown for Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart, the first single from The Element Of Freedom, there simply was no stopping Keys in the last half-hour of her 90-minute show.

Hit after hit followed: the female empowerment anthem, Superwoman; the heart-on-her-sleeve songs, If I Ain't Got You and No One; and the crowd-pleasing encore number, Empire State Of Mind Part II (Broken Down).

Earlier in the show, the bouncy Put It In A Love Song, Keys' collaboration with Beyonce, and the R&B ballad, Un-thinkable (I'm Ready), her duet with Drake, came across too calculated for the more mature Keys, who has always been an amazing songwriter and singer but is only now hitting her stride as a live performer.

Lil Wayne Takes Center Stage At Dodge Arena Texas Concert Recap

Lil Wayne first concert date of his tour before he heads off to jail in February 2010.

As reported by Zack Quaintance at The Monitor

Lil’ Wayne played for about an hour and a half Thursday (Dec. 17) at Dodge Arena, playing hits that included “A Milli,” “Mr. Carter,” and “Lollipop.” There’s a perception that hip hop as a genre doesn’t translate well to live shows. That’s not the case with Wayne. Instead of the standard show – featuring a rapper, hype man, and DJ — Wayne brought the band and a collection of guests. He did things his way, and it’s the same way he has gained such a massive following.

Think back three or four years ago, when artists still made a fair amount of money selling records. In those days, Wayne was busy making about a billion mix tapes and distributing them for free. Why would he do such a thing?

Possibly because he envisioned this day — where he would stand on stages at places like the Dodge Arena. He would slap hands with people in the front row as thousands chanted “Weezy, Weezy, Weezy.”

He seemed especially pleased when he delved into rock, a genre Wayne often tinkers with. Even though he had the excellent band behind him, Wayne played electric guitar himself for a couple songs, including a cover of Aerosmith and Run D.M.C.’s “Walk This Way.”

The crowd erupted when he slung the axe over his shoulder. Wayne’s guitar skills are debatable. He looked like a kid at a high school talent show concentrating intensely on every note. But that wasn’t the point. Weezy was having a blast up there and doing whatever he felt like. The feeling carried over to the audience.

People stood on chairs, waved their arms and cheered every time he looked their way. A superstar with the world watching him had come to South Texas, and he loved every second of it. They couldn’t help but thank him.

Mos Def & DOOM Team Up For Upcoming Concert Dates

via Exclaim Canada

While live appearances from underground hip-hop icon DOOM are definitely a touchy subject for some fans, the rapper is set to play two shows with Mos Def in early 2010. So far, we know a Toronto show is happening at the Koolhaus on January 27 and a New York show is happening the Nokia Theatre at Times Square on January 30.

We hate to be so conspiratorial, but the amount of controversy surrounding DOOM's concerts will likely raise some concerns. The shows are billed as “DOOM with Mos Def,” which is strange, because if Mos Def were to play with DOOM, there's no question he would headline.

Neither rappers have announced the shows on their official websites, so it’s unclear if more shows will be scheduled.

Tickets for the Toronto show go on sale this Saturday (December 5), and you may want to get buying early, because if both Mos Def and the real DOOM actually show up, it will surely be one great evening of hip-hop.

Jay-Z Cancels Remaining 2009 'The BP3' Tour Dates

As seen on Live Daily

Jay-Z has scrapped the remainder of his 2009 tour dates behind his latest studio set, "The Blueprint 3," citing conflicts in scheduling.

The hip-hop star's upcoming shows in Lubbock, TX (11/17); Albuquerque, NM (11/19) and El Paso, TX (11/20), have all been canceled due to an "unforeseen scheduling conflict," according to concert promoter Live Nation. Refunds for the shows will be made available immediately at the point of purchase.

Jay-Z--whose real name is Shawn Carter--earlier moved a Nov. 22 show in Austin, TX, up to Nov. 10 in order to make a live appearance at the 2009 American Music Awards, which are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on the same day as the original Austin date.

The early 2010 leg of the performer's "BP3" tour continues to gather steam, however, with a handful of fresh dates recently added to an already full-sized schedule. The tour is currently set to kick off Feb. 20 in Sunrise, FL, and will hit 17 cities through late March. Dates are below.

RJD2 Schedules 2010 Tour And Plans Give-Aways Prior To New Album Release

via Pollstar

The Colossus is the first album on RJD2’s recently launched record label, RJ’s Electrical Connection. The album is out Jan. 19 with the tour kicking off 10 days before that.

The tour will mark RJD2’s first outing with a full band since 2008.

To get fans pumped about the new album, RJD2 is hosting “Monday Giveaway Madness” on RJD2’s website every Monday until the release of The Colossus.

Every Monday fans have the chance to win a giveaway, which RJD2 (born Ramble John “RJ” Krohn) explains “some weeks it might be a singular physical item, some weeks it might be an unreleased song in mp3 format. I really have no idea exactly what, but it's not gonna be pocket lint-caliber, that's for sure. Some weeks it will require participation, some weeks it won't.”

Next Monday’s prize is a signed copy of an RJD2 45 record from the artist’s personal collection. “These are all WAAAAY out of print, limited edition in the first place, and some of them sell for 50-100 bucks on ebay, I’m told,” he said.

To win the record, RJD2 is bribing fans with a little writing assignment.

“You’ve heard a million times why you SHOULD vote. This time, I want you to provide the most compelling reason NOT to vote.”

RJD2 asks that fans keep their arguments under 200 words. Entries must be sent to giveaway@rjselectricalconnections.com by (Saturday) Nov.14. That’s tomorrow!

The winning entry will be posted on RJD2’s website and the record will be shipped to the winner absolutely free.

The week before RJD2 gave away an unreleased mp3, the tune “The Perfect Occasion.”

Chris Brown Announces Tour Dates: Too Soon?

Todd Martens of the Los Angeles Times begs the question about the pending Chris Brown “Fan Appreciation” Tour - is it "Too Soon?"

October 20, 2009 2:07 P.M. Wasting no time to return to the public eye, controversial R&B singer Chris Brown has confirmed a date at the Avalon in Hollywood, promising an "intimate performance" on Nov. 18. The official announcement, oddly enough, comes on the same day that Rihanna released her new single, the stark "Russian Roulette."

In late August, Brown was sentenced to five years' probation and 180 days' community labor -- to be personally supervised by the chief of police in Richmond, Va. -- in connection with his attack on former girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown will soon see how forgiving pop audiences are of him. Tickets for his Nov. 18 performance, produced by Live Nation, will go on sale Friday via the promoter's website. The concert will promote his forthcoming release "Graffiti."

UPDATED 4:17 P.M. A statement from Jive says that the trek will be called the "Fan Appreciation" tour, and that a "portion of proceeds" will be donated to the charity Best Buddies International. The non-profit is "devoted solely to providing friendships, jobs and leadership opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities," according to the release.

In a release announcing the tour date, Brown is quoted as saying, "I wanted to change it up and really be different. Like my style nowadays, I don't try to be typical urban. I want to be like how Prince and Michael [Jackson] and Stevie Wonder were. They can cross over to any genre of music."

There's plenty of examples in pop music of artists surviving controversial pasts, including Brown's idol Jackson. R. Kelly continued to release music and dominate the charts while undergoing a prolonged trial, in which he was ultimately acquitted, on child pornography charges.

Brown will have to hope the public has a similarly short memory when it comes to his tour. His comeback single, "I Can Transform Ya," was released Sept. 29 and has hovered around No. 30 on iTunes' top-selling digital singles for much of the last week, according to data from Big Champagne.
