James Cameron & Black Eyed Peas Launch Samsung 3D LED TV Times Sq Event

via T3

3DTV fight begins as Hollywood heavyweight James Cameron joins the Black Eyed Peas to hail the arrival of the Samsung's world first HD 3D LED TV at a start-studded gig in New York (Wednesday, March 10).

James Cameron took to the stage in New York's Times Square to help launch the Samsung's world's first 3D HD LED TV last night, hailing the arrival of hi-definition 3D TVs as a breakthrough for the future of entertainment.

The Avatar director was joined on stage by the Black Eyed Peas for on an impromptu pop-up style performance that was being shot in 3D using the same cameras Cameron used to create the box office smash about the blue people.

Speaking to a packed Times Square, filled with fans, passers by and the world's media, Cameron put his full backing behind the new tech, claiming it as a new dawn for the entertainment industry.

The scale of the event - the global launch for Samsung 3D - clearly demonstrates the Korean giants' commitment to 3D and is a clear nod to the size of the effort needed to broadcast the 3D message to the gadget buying public.

The launch follows hot on the heels of a raft of 3D news as all the big brands race to get their hardware and messages out.

Earlier in the week Samsung revealed details for the US roll out of their 17-strong 3D product range that includes TVs, 3D blu-ray players, glasses and content.

The glasses will be bundled in 'grab and go starter kits', free with anyone buying a 3D TV and a 3D blu-ray player in a move that's likely to be mirrored in the UK.

The Black Eyed Peas performed three of their hit singles in front of half a dozen 3D cameras and the concert footage will be used to showcase the powers of 3D when Samsung roll out their in-store demos to 800 UK (& in US) outlets towards the end of April.

Samsung's tie up with the Black Eyed Peas doesn't just stop at the night's musical fanfare, as the US pop quartet will also release a full HD 3D Black Eyed Peas concert.

T3 had a sneak preview of the footage at the after party and can honestly say this type of content lends itself nicely to 3D. Without going into too much detail, Fergie's costumes were very revealing in showcasing the powers of the new tech and the experience was pretty immersive.

We also got our hands on the 3D specs Samsung will be shipping with the 3D TVs for around £120 ($180.00).

Kid Rock Gets On The Black Eyed Peas Party Train At Detroit Area Concert

via Detroit News

It's one thing to say you love Detroit, and the Black Eyed Peas certainly did that at the Palace of Auburn Hills Tuesday night (March 9). They name-checked everyone from the Supremes to Eminem to J Dilla, and stated and restated the city's importance as if they were running for mayor.

But it's another thing to prove it, and they did that when they brought out the Son of Detroit himself, Kid Rock, for a late show run through of his 2008 smash "All Summer Long." Wearing a Burberry-type jacket and a giddy, oversize smile on his face, Rock sauntered onto the stage in front of the sold-out crowd of 15,000 and offered up a loose take on his hit, while joined on the stage's long catwalk by the four Peas. When he jumped the gun and came in early on the last verse he stopped himself and said, "did I (mess) that up?" He then waved off his mistake and exclaimed, "it's Detroit!" and finished the song in style. Rock's cameo may not have technically fit into the flow of the show at all, but who cares, it's Detroit! It solidified the wall-to-wall party that was the two-hour show, which achieved lead Pea will.i.am's stated goal of transforming the arena into a nightclub.

Black Eyed Peas At Madison Square Garden Video, Photos & After Party Concert Recap

Black Eyed Peas Madison Square Garden All Major Media Outlets Concert Reviews:

Love or hate this band, you've got to respect any act that can make the concrete bounce to the beat of their fans' devotion. Like Aerosmith, the Stones and The Who, the Peas have joined the roster of those who've literally rocked the Garden.

New York Post - Peas soup up the Garden

Like many groups anxious about their performing skills, the Peas amped up their bass lines and beats to murderous levels. The result flattened the melodies and halted any sense of momentum, which for dance music, spells death.

The staging did little to distract from the dirge. Based around a futurist motif - complete with outfits that made the group appear like rejected Transformers - the look matched the sound in its robotic chill.

New York Daily News - Clunky Madison Square Garden show is a black eye for Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas

It was pop’s latest sci-fi spectacle, in a lineage that dates back at least as far as Janet Jackson’s 1990 Rhythm Nation Tour and has lately yielded high-tech tours by Kanye West and Lady Gaga. While one purpose of a tour is to offer fans the physical, human presence of the stars, Black Eyed Peas are unabashed pop cyborgs — and that’s how the fans like them.

New York Times - Wired for Sound, and Everything Else

From the onset, when the four-person crew entered via platforms underneath the stage, to midway through the set when Will.I.Am freestyled rhymes based on text messages, the Peas put on a concert that was every bit as energetic as their pulsing tracks.

As the booming bass of "Let's Get It Started" drummed up, Apl.de.Ap was the first BEP member to pop up onstage. He was soon followed by Taboo and Fergie. A billowing cloud of smoke enshrouded the stage as Will.I.Am joined his mates, complete with a "Phantom of the Opera"-like mask.

MTV - Black Eyed Peas Turn Up The Energy In NYC With Ludacris, LMFAO

As pure spectacle, the show often delivered. Robots! Lasers! Sequins! Masks! Leather! The futuristic theme was reminiscent of Kanye West’s 2008 Glow in the Dark tour, with the Peas’ party-all-the-time aesthetic in place of Kanye’s grandiose introspection. The sound mix made it difficult to discern the Peas’ lyrics at times, but that hardly mattered. We could certainly hear the all-important boom-boom-pow beats clearly enough. Visually, things stayed busy, even frenetic, with constant costume changes and scenery shifts to keep us entertained.

And the BEP After Party covered by the New York Post

The Bacardi party at M2 after the Black Eyed Peas show at the Garden Wednesday night was a bigger event than the concert itself. The bandmates -- minus will.i.am., who was a no-show -- gave a surprise performance at the Chelsea club, singing two of their songs, "Imma Be" and "Boom Boom Pow," for enthusiastic fans. Apl.de.ap also hopped behind the turntables while Fergie sang along to a mix of hip-hop songs. The Peas partied until 3:30 a.m.

L.A. Times Grades 2009 American Music Awards Performances + Show Photo Links

Rihanna. Ne-Yo told us that the "R" in her "Rated R" stands for either "remarkable" or "really, really sexy." Not quite sure if it completely hit both of those notes, but it was definitely over too soon. Performing in a sort of sci-fi junkyard, Rihanna came onstage in what could have been a torture device. Like Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna is definitely tapping into the cyborg pop mentality that's all the rage at the moment (nice spikes on the shoulders). She gave us snippets of two songs from "Rated R" -- "Wait Your Turn" and "Hard" -- but it would have been better to just stick with one. To her credit, she sounded sharp, metallic and owned the songs. The night's best performance thus far. A-

The Black Eyed Peas. The Los Angeles popsters received a showcase performance, getting to offer live takes of "Meet Me Halfway" and "Boom Boom Pow," two of the most ubiquitous songs of the year. Viewers were reminded of this fact repeatedly, with their sales constantly hyped, and the Black Eyed Peas declaring themselves "the new kings" at the end of their performance. On record, "Meet Me Halfway" is all electronic futurism. Live, it was a bit messier, but there was plenty of eye candy in this extended performance. Crazy wigs and stereo outfits and some crowd-pleasing samples of C+C Music Factory and Nirvana. It was all pop-culture nonsense, and that's what the Black Eyed Peas excel at. B+

Alicia Keys. Getting a chance to redeem herself for her earlier performance, Keys drops her new single, "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart," in her second performance of the evening, touching on a bit of '70s R&B vibe. Her gold-draped jacket will dominate the gossip sites Monday, and the single's good too. Keys doesn't belt at the top of her lungs here, and though I prefer her when she's at the piano (she sat down and played in the song's final moments), she's softly restrained for much of the song. The background dancers, copping some vintage "West Side Story" Broadway moves, were cute to boot. B+

Mary J. Blige. Her "I Am" isn't a knock-out on par with "I Can See in Color," but it's the type of ballad Blige can perfectly deliver in her sleep. On a night were futuristic flash and bare skin were all the rage, Blige kept it lovingly old school. B

Janet Jackson. So, supposedly the American Music Awards were going to open with a performance from Janet, and that's technically what happened. Except Janet's performance was largely a commercial for her "Number Ones," in which the singer, in a tan outfit that looked like it was ripped straight from the racks at REI, performed a medley of her hits. Imagine going to Amazon.com and clicking on a bunch of song samples from her two-disc set. That's largely what this performance was -- it's "Miss You Much"! and now it's "What Have You Done for Me Lately"! -- and if you were a Janet fan, you surely enjoyed this swift little medley. It was a safe and solid opening, and it gets a slight bonus for focusing entirely on Janet and not becoming another Michael tribute, so B-.

Black Eyed Peas: Highlights From The Rock & Roll Hall A Fame Concert NYC

The Rock n Roll Hall A Fame 25 years concert took place at Madison Square Garden NYC and has been going on the last couple of days. Black Eyed Peas played on night two Friday, October 30.

Excerpts from New York Magazine as reported by Hugo Lindgren and Ben Williams.

Fan shot video below.

U2/Fergie/Jagger — “Gimme Shelter”
This was a crazy mess, but absolutely riveting. Neither Bono nor Mick could contribute much vocally — Bono's voice is gone, hopefully not forever, and Jagger's faux-Texan twang has disconcertingly overwhelmed the rest of his repertoire. But who the hell cares, this was Mick and U2 up there, banging it out like a bunch of teenagers! U2’s arrangement was subtly bewitching, and major props belong to Fergie, who had to execute the greatest back-up vocal performance of all time. Of course, she made no one forget the original. But her fearlessness was something to behold.

U2/Black Eyed Peas — "Where is the Love"
The segue from "Mysterious Ways" to "Where is the Love" may have been most artful moment of the night, and from there on out, it was pure goosebumps, we're not ashamed to admit it.

Slash Rocks With The Black Eyed Peas At Rose Bowl In Pasadena, CA

Fan shot video footage below.

Black Eyed Peas opening for U2's "360 Degrees" World Tour at the Rose Bowl In Pasadena, CA on Sunday, October 25.

excerpt from the Los Angeles Times U2 live show review reported by Ann Powers

Opening the show, the Black Eyed Peas went for something more tried and true, but also powerful: a party vibe celebrating the home team. Performing its many hits in an exuberant set, the Peas radiated Southern California pride. Tabu draped himself in Mexican and American flags; will.i.am name-checked neighborhoods and towns from Hollywood to East L.A. to La Crescenta.

The set's spirited climax came when Fergie took Axl Rose's part in a rough and true-blooded cover of the Guns N' Roses classic "Sweet Child o' Mine," with Slash himself on guitar. If U2 aimed for universals, the Black Eyed Peas reminded us that particulars have their uses too. Especially when those particulars are as diverse as the elements that make up the Southland.
