Georgia Anne Muldrow And Declaime AKA Dudley Perkins Announce SomeOthaShip Connect Music Label & Artist Roster

via the press release

(March 31, 2010 - Brooklyn, NY) Only a month after the release of their album, SomeOthaShip, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime AKA Dudley Perkins are proud to announce the founding of their own label, SomeOthaShip Connect. With distribution deals in place with E1 Music (physical and digital) and Fat Beats Records (vinyl) and a number of releases lined up already for 2010, including spring releases from Darryl Moore and Declaime, the label promises a bright future and fresh start for the duo.

Uniting as the eccentric pair known as G&D (Georgia & Declaime) in 2007, the California-based duo has come a long way since releasing their debut album, The Message Uni Versa. Both Georgia and Dudley have separately released solo albums while also collaborating with artists like Big Pooh of Little Brother, Prince Po, Erykah Badu, Madlib, Mos Def, Black Milk, Kool G Rap, Flying Lotus, The Alkaholiks and more. Though having the opportunity to work with countless prolific talents, being unable to control their own business destiny began to hang heavy. "Why let someone eat off your creativity like that? If god's blessing you, let him bless you whole-heartedly," says Declaime. "All our artists are for the same cause." Fueling ingenuity and emboldening originality, the outcome is the creation of the new label, SomeOthaShip Connect.

Ready to set sail, SomeOthaShip Connect is delivering two albums on May 4th, Declaime's FONK and Darryl Moore's Where I'm At (both artist tracklistings below). A veteran of hip-hop, Declaime delivers on FONK, combining his own emcee forte with beats from luminary producer Quazedelic (Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, Angie Stone) to generate a sound brimming with rhymes and vivid hooks. The album's initial single "Fame" will be available through iTunes beginning April 6th. New enterprising poet/singer, Darryl Moore is also not to be overlooked with his debut release, Where I'm At. The artist feeds Soul-hungry music lovers with eloquent lyrics and soulful melodies. "He's an amazing poet, just as amazing as his singing," praises Georgia. Previously, Darryl Moore has worked with the likes Bobby Brown, Gorilla Zoe & (Dr.) Cornel West.

Following these early May releases is a bevy of releases to follow. Georgia is releasing her own experimental jazz album, Ocotea, June 15th, while preparing for a new G&D album to be released later in the year. Her single "I Had A Revelation," recorded at the legendary Agape Church in LA is also out on iTunes April 6th. In addition to forthcoming releases from newly signed artists Kadence, Stacy Epps, Rickie BB, Oji, Quazedelic AKA Stan Sly, and Reverend Michael Beckwith, SomeOthaShip Connect is also planning the release of books and comics as well, embarking on ventures big and small with their mission statement: "We are sailing, with intention, upon the shores of this reality, with a message of FONK and light for the whole planet."

Flying Lotus 'Cosmogramma' New Album May 4

via Warp

When global bass music matriarch Mary Anne Hobbs recently told The FaderFlying Lotus, for me, is like the Hendrix of his generation” it seemed more then an audacious opinion, and with the arrival of Cosmogramma, it's revealed as a revelation. In the past couple of years, Flying Lotus has grown into the position of being far more than a producer, he has helped materialize a far-reaching strain of musical ideology that has encompassed not only a global family of like-minded artists, but also a nearly infinite palate of planetary (and interplanetary) sonics.

Looking back, his full-length Warp debut, Los Angeles appears to be much more of a mission statement than a simple introduction – laying the foundation for a field on which an entire generation of artists would soon be playing. While that album was an introspective, moody travelogue through the Californian metropolis, it certainly hinted at Flying Lotus’ inclination to expand his sound beyond terrestrial means.

As you may deduce from the title of his latest opus, he’s done just that. Not only has an entirely new range of sounds been unlocked by our intrepid astral traveler, but every genre touchstone associated with his name has been merged into a self-described “space opera”. Seamless in execution and too wide in scope to properly describe, it is the authentic embodiment of his unique musical heritage. The spirit of his famed aunt, Alice Coltrane permeates the record, notably in the powerful collaborations with relative Ravi Coltrane, bass virtuoso Thundercat and the brilliant harp prodigy, Rebekah Raff.

Certainly these are further reaches into a musical space that Flying Lotus had hitherto been exploring, however other collaborators such as Erykah Badu and Outkast string arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and guest vocalists Thom Yorke and a returning Laura Darlington (featured on Los Angeles’ epic closing track ‘Inifinitum’) help deliver Cosmogramma to dizzying new heights. All this name-dropping, however, is not to detract from the genius of the wizard-like figure behind it all. The most powerful aspect of FlyLo’s output has always been it’s ability to communicate his boundless love and enthusiasm for music in all it’s forms and that is what is boldly on display here.

People speak about ‘important’ albums all the time, but rarely is it so apparent that person behind them is following their own, chosen path – Flying Lotus is one of those precious few artists. When one is presented with an invitation for space travel, it’s not something to pass up.
