Mann 'Birthday Philosophy' Mixtape

Recently signed to Mercury/Def Jam, producer J.R. Rotem hand picked the Los Angeles native Mann to take the crossover hip hop world by storm.

About the project:

[July 20th, 2010] After the first two mixtapes Vintage Cutz and A Near Life Experience, then his radio single “Text” West LA, CA recording artist Mann is releasing what can only be described as a statement EP project where every person is encouraged to live every day like their birthday per Mann’s “Birthday Philosophy"

The Birthday Philosophy makes anything we can say an understatement when the music itself is the boldest statement to be made.

As Mann himself states, “"After sitting back and surveying the music scene recently I felt I had to step my game up... This EP is to say to people who aren't quite sure of who exactly I am as an artist, and why I am in the position that I'm in (i.e. Def Jam/Mercury/Beluga Heights). I'm much more than my single 'Text' showed people and I hope it comes through in this project"

The understated brilliance and cohesiveness of a project helmed by one producer/engineer in Redvision helps to answer this career balancing act of the mainstream music he has created with JR and his Hip-Hop roots that lead him to his record deal.

There comes a time when the whole of a man’s experience must be manifested in his art rather than simply a sum of all the parts he has picked up until then. A rubberband can only be stretched so far before it returns back to its original shape, and traveling around the country in support of various projects has finally brought Mann back home to the artist with the ingenuity to make it to Def Jam before this “Mann” could legally buy a pack of zig zags. An appreciator of music can listen to the final stages of an evolution of a West L.A. musician befall their very ears on Birthday Philosophy, and the best part about this, with Mann being a product of his environment in the best sense of the phrase, this is as much West L.A.’s album as it is Mann’s. Follow West L.A.’s evolution (Manns World) along with Mann’s. Treat every day like your birthday.

Styles P & DJ Green Lantern Mixtape Project Coming Feb. 2010

Styles P & DJ Green Lantern - 'The Green Ghost Project' on Invasion Records in-stores February 2, 2010.

via Boom Box

While 50 Cent tried to beef his way to the bank and destroy the L.O.X., its members remain strong and continue to collaborate with some of the biggest names in the game. One of the most enticing L.O.X.-related projects is an upcoming mixtape between rapper Styles P and DJ Green Lantern. Although originally slated for a November release, the duo is still in the lab putting some finishing touches on the project. The record, entitled 'Green Ghost Project,' is now targeted for early February and will apparently rest somewhere between a mixtape and a regular album (whatever that means).

"The 'Green Ghost Project' is just DJ Green Lantern and Styles P, the Ghost, coming together," Lantern said in a recent interview. "Basically, I put a gang of music together, got with a couple of producers I know personally and me and Styles just sat back and put a format together of a bunch of songs and a flow of the material on the project and the s--- came out crazy."
The duo recently wrapped shooting on a video for the new track 'Kite Runner.' The song details the mixed emotions that one experiences while doing a bid in prison. Considering Styles P has ample experience in this matter, the track is steeped in an increasingly rare realism.

"The song is basically about what dudes are saying in jail to their other dudes and about you not really needing much but a letter and a little bit of love," explained Styles in a recent interview. "Not money, not nothing but a little love to send a letter. If somebody's in jail, just send a letter. Let 'em know you love them."

Jake One: Producer Talks To Seattle Times About Upcoming Freeway Album & More

Seattle superproducer Jake One recently released 40 minutes of hiphop with rapper Freeway, one of the most original voices in rap, on a free downloadable mixtape called "The Beat Made Me Do It."

The compositions are simple: looped samples of funk and soul records Jake likes from the late '70s and early '80s. He made the whole thing in three or four hours, he estimates.

"I just grabbed some records and looped 'em up. [Freeway] wanted to do a mixtape and I didn't want to do what everyone else does, rap on 'A Milli' or whatever beat is hot at the moment."

Jake and Freeway are a team; the mixtape promotes "Stimulus Package," the duo's album coming out Febrary 2010.

Jake says during the week the mixtape came together, he would email Freeway a track, and Freeway would make up little bits of rhyme off the top of his head and record them as he went along, stitching together verses, then email the tracks back. That's how most of the mixtape happened, with very little writing or planning.

"For him to do that, it's basically nothing. It's an exercise for him."

Really? Off the top of his head?

"Yeah, four bars, eight bars at a time and go back and do another. He's more about style. He has a really unique style. It's more about his rhythm and flows than what he's saying sometimes. It's about patterns."

Komp'L Announces Upcoming 'Tunnel Vision' Mixtape

via press release

Gemstars LLC are proud to announce the impending release of Tunnel Vision from their lead off artist Komp'L. Born Divine Thomas, this New York native has been diligently crafting his debut project over the last few months, eager to make an impression on Hip-Hop's biggest fans.

"This mixtape has taken a lot of hard work from all involved," Komp'L explains. "I went back and re-recorded some of the tracks to give the tape a 'fresher' feel and to demonstrate just where I am today as an artist and I am extremely pleased with the outcome."

The fourteen-track opus, which features production from the Gemstars in-house production team, Marv, Bobby and Majestic, validates the void that Komp’L is intent on filling. Boasting abundant wordplay and generous portions of metaphors and punch lines, Komp’L is adamant that this chapter in his recording career will open doors not just for him as a rapper but also for Gemstars as, New York’s most innovative new label.

“This will be the mixtape to get us the attention we strive so hard to achieve,” the budding performer shares. “The real Hip-Hop heads should appreciate this tape for the fact its straight up lyricism, something which the game is severely lacking.”

With the tape being available for free download from the 28th of October, the lead off single from project, "So Cold" produced by Marv is currently being worked online and to radio. “The reason why we selected this track as the first from Tunnel Vision was because it says so much about me as an artist,” Komp’L says. “But not only that, the production on the track has the power to bump in the club as well as appeal to true Hip-Hop fans because of the wordplay.”

Having spent countless hours in the studio creating Tunnel Vision there will be a release party in conjunction with Drahma Magazine to celebrate this monumental achievement by Komp’L and his team on Friday 30th of October in New York City (details to follow.)

It’s hard making an impression in Hip-Hop today no doubt about it, but when you are as consistent and resilient as Komp’L is proving himself to be, slaying those Hip-Hop giants is more a reality than a myth.

Digiwaxx Media Partners with Solar One to Produce CitySol Festival and Solar Heat Mixtape inspried by Eco-friendly music festival

Sounds like a great event for a great cause...

(via press release)
New York, NY (July 8, 2009)--Digiwaxx Media has collaborated with Solar One for the second consecutive year with its NYC Sustainability Festival taking place Friday June 10th through Sunday June 12th at Stuyvesant Cove Park located on 23rd Street and the FDR Service Road East in New York City. As co-curator of the main event, the live music day on Saturday, June 11th, Digiwaxx has secured the urban acts that will be performing during the concert as well as created the free Solar Heat mixtape produced by 106 & Park DJ battle champion, Get Live. The mixtape will primarily be available online for download as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional physical CD's and a conscious effort to conserve materials. The fully solar powered event will take place from 12 Noon to 10pm with a long list of acts that will include Dead Prez, O'Neal McKnight and a special surprise guest DJ.

Digiwaxx Media, a premier music marketing and urban lifestyle company that specializes in urban talent and digital distribution to DJs, originally joined forces with Solar One to help to further the marketing techniques that are used to reach an urban audience. As part of this partnership Digiwaxx's role consists of securing talent for the show, marketing the event to urban networks as well as compiling a mixtape that features artists such as Mike Posner, J. Cole, Ryan Leslie and Melanie Fiona. "There are a lot of hip-hop artists who care about positive causes such as saving the environment. Digiwaxx is proud to offer a concrete and fun way for them to get involved and spread the message to our communities," says Digiwaxx founder and CEO Corey "CL" Llewellyn.

The CitySol Concert will be fully powered by photovoltaic panels on Solar One's nearby roof. To insure that the act is carbon neutral, all waste will be properly recycled. This is groundbreaking compared to comparative music performances that usually waste roughly 600 light bulbs, 200,000 napkins and nearly 500,000 plastic cups every year, yielding 500-1,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

In addition to booking Dead Prez, one of the most internationally renowned and politically charged groups of present day hip-hop, Digiwaxx has also booked Universal Records newcomer O'Neal McKnight who has received overwhelming buzz for his astounding affiliations and accomplishments. With Digiwaxx's database of over 35,000 DJs worldwide that includes some of most renowned radio and celebrity DJs at their disposal, the surprise DJ is sure to be a hit. With Urban Go Green on board as a sponsor and the Queen Afua Wellness Institute on hand to provide raw vegan food, the festival will be a great experience for everyone attending.

The entire CitySol festival will include activities, installations, and exhibits for the whole weekend of July 11th-July 12th. Music acts will perform under a solar tent by Eco-Pioneer, who will also be providing site design with solar tents, a tiki lounge and a bar and bike area. Installation art and exhibits will be created in -MORE- a Habitat for Artists—a temporary recycled-and-recyclable art studio where Habitat creator Simon Draper (and other artists of his choosing) will create pieces to display during the festival. Additional activities include Sunday's Kids of All Ages Day where attendees can create their very own generator with the Madagascar Institute as well as take part in open eco-pet fashion show and access the Biobus Mobile Science Lab.

For more information on these events including the scheduled line up please visit www.CitySol.org/2009.

Bullet releases mixtape with a little help from Mz Stylez

(via press release)
Chicago lyricist Bullet has joined forces with Sirius XM Shade 45 DJ Mz Stylez for his Summer mixtape smash HOME ALONE. Featuring production from Cool Kids Chuck Inglish, Christian Rich and Slot-A, Bullet once again reaffirms his place in the Hip-Hop hierarchy with this 16 track opus. After releasing his recent single Mr Robotic, fans have been eagerly waiting the release of HOME ALONE which within an hour of its release had secured over 1,000 downloads.

Opening the ears of folks all over the world Bullet, with his constant barrage of free downloads and random freestyles, continues to develop undying support through social networking sites such as Twitter and Myspace. Sponsored by ThatsHipHop.com, SimplyStylez.com and Sirius XM, it is apparent that HOME ALONE is a project to satiate the appetites of fans while Bullet preps his Mr Robotic EP which is slated for release later this year.

"The way this project came together was perfect timing! I had a bunch of records sitting on my laptop and i went back to a bunch of sites and blogs that had my records posted and i figured hey why not just put these together along with some new songs and make a tape," the self proclaimed martian explains. "Having Mz.Stylez a part of the project was awesome because she doesn't get behind just anything. This is my second free project which I worked on to maintain the attention of all the fans and I am hoping that they enjoy it as much as we did making it."

"It was an ill experience working with Bullet, the energy was ridiculous, the music refreshing, a definite good look." - Mz. Stylez
