Cypress Hill To Resurrect 'Smokeout' Music Festival With Geto Boys And Sublime
via All Hip Hop
Hip-Hop group Cypress Hill has announced a partnership with Guerilla Union to re-launch the annual Cypress Hill Smokeout.
The two-day festival and “cannabis expo,” which launched in 1998, will return after a six-year hiatus this October, at the San Manuel Amphitheatre and festival grounds in San Bernardino, California.
Headliners on the Cypress Hill Smokeout include Slipknot, Sublime!, Deftones, Redman and Method Man, Cheech and Chong, all original members of the Goodie Mob and a reunion-set featuring the original Geto Boys, consisting of Willie D., Scarface and Bushwick Bill.
“It's a stoner's dream come true,” B-Real told AllHipHop.com of the festival. “Our fans deserve an event that celebrates our love of music and marijuana culture. It’s gonna take two days to take it all in. I can't wait to play some new music and hang with all our friends and fans."
In addition to the aforementioned performers, festival goers will see performances by Hieroglyphics, Immortal Technique, K’Naan, Living Legends, Devin The Dude, Swollen Members with Moka Only, Afrika Bambaataa, Mixmaster Mike, Kottonmouth Kings and others.

Press release:
Madison Square Garden's national music network Fuse and MSG Entertainment today announced that JAY-Z will play a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, underwritten by ABSOLUT, JAY-Z and Live Nation, on September 11 at 9pm ET that will air exclusively in HD and commercial-free, live on Fuse. All proceeds from the concert will go towards New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund, the organization that has been helping New York City families of fallen first responders for over 25 years. The exclusive relationship between MSGE and Fuse will allow JAY-Z's fans nationwide to experience "Fuse Presents JAY-Z Live from Madison Square Garden: Answer the Call," the highly anticipated live event, the same day his 11th studio album, The Blueprint 3 is released.
For this live event, 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales and concert merchandise will go directly to New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund. Since its inception, the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund has distributed over $114 million to the families of New York City police and fire personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Though the Benefit Fund was initially created to assist families of New York City Fire Fighters and Police Officers, the non-profit now includes the families of Emergency Medical Services and Port Authority Officers as well. For more information on the organization, go to www.answerthecall.org.
The on-sale date and method of purchase will be announced shortly. After the announcement, Citi card members will have access to presale tickets through Citi's Private Pass(R) program. For complete presale details visit: www.citiprivatepass.com and for more information on programming surrounding this event, go to www.fuse.tv/jay-z.
The events of September 11th challenged JAY-Z as an entertainer and a New Yorker. This benefit concert serves as not just a reminder of the lives lost but as a look towards the future and the hope that arose on September 12th. "This charity and concert encompass the true spirit of New York City," commented Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter. "We are asking everyone to 'answer the call' and support and honor the families of those that lost their lives in the line of duty. There was true camaraderie and resiliency that this city showed the world in 2001, and we continue that today by taking care of our own."
"On behalf of New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund's Board of Directors and the families of our fallen heroes, we are truly grateful for JAY-Z's choice to support our charity and 'answering the call'," said Stephen J. Dannhauser, president and CEO of the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.
Kicking off with the live airing of "Fuse Presents JAY-Z Live from Madison Square Garden: Answer the Call," on September 11 at 9pm ET, Fuse will feature additional JAY-Z programming in support of the Benefit Fund and The Blueprint 3's release throughout the weekend. Content will include "The JAY-Z Chronicles," tracing his career and rise to the top through music videos and facts, "Loaded: JAY-Z," featuring a half-hour of JAY-Z's greatest music videos, and encore performances of the concert.
The unique relationship between MSG Entertainment and Fuse offers music lovers distinct multi-platform access to JAY-Z and the opportunity to support, along with JAY-Z, an important New York City cause. Through television, on-line exposure at MSGE venue websites and msg.com, and cross-venue assets, JAY-Z will benefit from MSG's multi-tiered exposure to his fans, ultimately further promoting this important charity.
"MSGE and Fuse are honored to support JAY-Z's efforts to raise awareness and funds for a great cause through this unique live concert and television event," said Mike Bair, president, MSG Media. "By utilizing Madison Square Garden's historic venue, Fuse's national reach of 65 million homes as well as our on air programming and promotional efforts, we hope to help JAY-Z reach fans by giving back through music."
"Together, MSGE and Fuse are thrilled to support JAY-Z's upcoming charity performance at The Garden and provide significant exposure to his fans in efforts to make a difference in people's lives," said Jay Marciano, president, MSG Entertainment. "There is no better outcome than when an evening of great music can excite fans and help people in need at the same time. Through MSG's unique assets, thousands of fans will be able to experience JAY-Z live exclusively on Fuse, bringing JAY-Z closer to potential donors and ultimately raising awareness for a meaningful cause."

Interview With Mack 10
via BallerStatus
BallerStatus.com: It's been a minute since we got a chance to hear a new studio album from you. Why such the long delay and what have you been doing in your time away?
Mack 10: I just had to really sit back and evaluate the game for a minute. I had to step back and take a good look. Sometimes you got to step away and look and then reevaluate sh** and re-up, you know what I mean? I went through a couple of things on the personal side, like divorce and all kinds of other sh**. Once that was behind me, I was able to focus on music again and move forward. My album is a good record and I'm very happy with it, and I look like I ain't never left, ya dig? So I'm good with it.
BallerStatus.com: How do you feel about how that last studio album was received by the fans and the critics?
Mack 10: I don't know, but I was going through something in my life where that wasn't my best work. But, I got a classic record off of that album and that's the record I call "Testimony". That's a classic, that was the second biggest radio single of my career. I was able to get a classic off of it, but this record right here is a totally different album and it's an album that ... I don't know I just think everybody is going to be pretty impressed with it.

Memphis Bleek To Release 'The Process' November 24
via Billboard
Jay-Z may be readying the release of his upcoming eleventh studio album, "The Blueprint 3," on September 11th, but the rapper and mogul still makes time to help old friends. Former Roc-A-Fella artist and Jay-Z protégé Memphis Bleek is slated to release his fifth studio album, "The Process E2" on November 24, and the set is executive produced by none other than his longtime mentor.

Memphis Bleek Set To Release Album
via press release
New York based recording artist and Jay Z's protégé Memphis Bleek is scheduled to release his 5th studio album titled "The Process" on November 24, 2009. The album, Executive Produced by Jay Z, will feature production from Just Blaze and No I.D. with special appearances by Jay Z, Rick Ross, Pharrell and more! The album will be released on Boston based label Mass Appeal Entertainment in a joint venture with Bleek's own imprint, Get Low Records.
Memphis Bleek talked about the new album and said, "The Process" has been exactly that; a process. Taking what I've learned from a teacher and creating my own school. It's time for me to handle my own business as a man and Mass Appeal supports the vision. I'm ready to share 'The Process' and Get Low Records with the world and along with Mass Appeal, I'm excited to take the next steps in my career independently". Bleek is looking to expand on what might be expected from him musically and take his lyrical skills to the next level. With the first-rate production team behind "The Process," along with Bleek's known conscious, confident, harsh, metaphorical lyrics this album will keep his fan base and hip-hop enthusiasts thrilled. Meanwhile a new group of listeners are sure to find this album to be one of the best of 2009. Mass Appeal Entertainment's CEO Marcus Siskind says, "We're excited to be in business with Bleek and to take part in the next stage of his career. Bleek has established himself as a successful brand in HipHop, and now has the opportunity to expand Independently to release new music to his fans".

(via the Hollywood Reporter Showbiz 411)
It's been awhile since we've had an official live performance from Bobby Brown. Perhaps with all the hoopla over his ex-wife's forthcoming album, Bobby found a new vehicle to promote himself.
The show is scheduled October 23rd at B.B. King's in New York City.

Hip Hop Hits Middle Age
(via the New York Magazine)
When the economy imploded, analysts warned that Americans would have to put off retirement. Who knew they meant rappers too? Forget your Cool Kids and your Soulja Boys: 2009 is shaping up to be the year of the Grown-Ass Man. But if “30’s the new 20,” as Jay-Z once proclaimed (to no shortage of mockery), what is 40?
