Aesop Rock, Atmosphere's Slug, and Murs Heart Rosie Perez With New Album

via Pitchfork

Every few years, indie rap soul-barers Slug (of Atmosphere) and Murs (of Living Legends and solo fame) get together and put all that intensity to the side, recording a full LP of nothing but relaxed front-stoop shit-talk. The duo have already released two albums in their Felt series, every installment of which is dedicated to a different actress that they both want to bone. The first Felt album, which dropped in 2002, was billed as A Tribute to Christina Ricci, and the second, from 2005 was for Lisa Bonet.

On the forthcoming third episode, they're showing their love for Rosie Perez. If this means they loop up Perez's ultra-annoying "Mookie!" scream from Do the Right Thing, I might have to kill myself.

Really, though, the last two Felt albums have barely mentioned the actresses in question. It's a fun concept, but these albums are mostly just a great excuse to hear these guys doing rap for rap's sake.

Another thing about this series: Each volume pairs Slug and Murs up with one producer, who supplies beats for the entire thing. Volume one had the Living Legends' Grouch, volume two had Atmosphere's Ant, and this next album will be entirely produced by Aesop Rock. It's an interesting choice. As a rapper, Aesop is definitely a peer and equal to Slug and Murs. But as a producer, he hasn't gotten much notice, even though he's done a ton of beats on his own records. Maybe that'll change now.

Rhymesayers will release Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez on November 17.
